Mountain State Success Story

Another Mountain State PT success story! Cara Minor was a standout high school basketball and softball player at North Marion High School and played through a left shoulder injury. In 2019, Cara began her collegiate basketball career at Shepherd University. Unfortunately, early in her Freshman basketball season, she reinjured her L shoulder and was forced to undergo a SLAP/labral repair to stabilize her L shoulder.Cara’s surgery was performed in early March 2020 and began physical therapy at our Mannington office in April of 2020 under the direction of Board-Certified Sports Specialist Chris Moore. Her treatment began with very gentle hands-on stretching to regain shoulder range of motion and slowly progressed to gentle strengthening. Cara eventually progressed to aggressive strengthening, plyometrics, and basketball-specific overhead activities. In total, Cara spent 4 months in physical therapy and her hard work has paid off! Cara has now resumed her basketball career at Shepherd University and was finally able to get back into game action a few weeks ago (after some lengthy COVID-19 delays). Congrats Cara on a successful recovery! We wish you luck in your collegiate basketball and academic careers!!

Another Mountain State Physical Therapy success story! A few weeks back, the West Virginia State High School Track Championships were held in Charleston. At our Mannington office we had a few former patients who became State Champions and helped lead the North Marion girls track team to a 2nd place finish. The young ladies are Abby Masters and Trinity Hine.
We will start with Abby as she had a very long road back to track competition. Abby underwent a serious knee surgery in March of 2020 to correct recurring patellar dislocation. Abby began PT in late March with Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist Chris Moore despite the COVID-19 crisis and continued uninterrupted through September of 2020. Abby completed a grueling progression of knee, hip, and core strengthening, hands-on stretching/massage, and eventually intense plyometrics and cutting drills. Abby endured this intense program…all while wearing a mask. She eventually returned to soccer mid-season, playing goalie. However, Abby’s true reward was her exceptional day at the State Track Meet….what a day she had! A 1st place finish in the 4x200, 2nd in the 4x400, 2nd in the 200m, and 3rd in the 100m.
As for Trinity Hine, she came to our Mannington office midway through track season with complaints of pain in both hips due to bilateral hip flexor tendonitis. Trinity had begun the track season performing well, but then started suffering significantly. Her goals of qualifying for the state meet competing for championships was slipping away. Trinity’s treatment consisted of soft tissue massage, manual stretching/hip mobilization, eccentric strengthening, rock taping, and iontophoresis. Trinity returned for the Regional and the State Meet, also becoming a State Champ as a member of the 4x200 team and 2nd in the 4x400.
Congratulations again to Abby and Trinity! We would also like to congratulate the entire North Marion track team and Coaches Jeff Crane and Keri Bland Richardson on a successful season!
