Mountain State Success Story

Another Mountain State PT success story! Cara Minor was a standout high school basketball and softball player at North Marion High School and played through a left shoulder injury. In 2019, Cara began her collegiate basketball career at Shepherd University. Unfortunately, early in her Freshman basketball season, she reinjured her L shoulder and was forced to undergo a SLAP/labral repair to stabilize her L shoulder.Cara’s surgery was performed in early March 2020 and began physical therapy at our Mannington office in April of 2020 under the direction of Board-Certified Sports Specialist Chris Moore. Her treatment began with very gentle hands-on stretching to regain shoulder range of motion and slowly progressed to gentle strengthening. Cara eventually progressed to aggressive strengthening, plyometrics, and basketball-specific overhead activities. In total, Cara spent 4 months in physical therapy and her hard work has paid off! Cara has now resumed her basketball career at Shepherd University and was finally able to get back into game action a few weeks ago (after some lengthy COVID-19 delays). Congrats Cara on a successful recovery! We wish you luck in your collegiate basketball and academic careers!!

Today at Mountain State PT we celebrated “Cancer Awareness”. This past year our employees lost several family members or had loved ones diagnosed with cancer. Our President Andy Barrish fought his own battle with cancer this past summer. Today we wore purple bows and made signs supporting those still fighting & those who have passed on. Another Mountain State success story!
Addie Elliott is currently a junior at North Marion High School and has participated in cross country, basketball, and track. Addie arrived at our Mannington facility in June of 2020 with complaints of severe R hip/groin pain a diagnosis of hip labral tear and femoroacetabular impingement. Addie underwent physical therapy with some success, but continued to have pain with running long distances. Addie underwent surgery in mid February of 2021 to address the labral tear and reshape her femoral head. Addie was staring at 5-6 months of rehab before she could return to running and sports participation.
In late March Addie began her physical therapy treatment with Chris Moore who is a Board-Certified Specialist in both Orthopedics and Sports. Treatment began with hands-on stretching/massage techniques and isolated strengthening, but eventually progressed to a grueling regimen of core and hip strengthening and sports-specific training. Addie displayed a fantastic work ethic and attitude that aided in her progress. By mid-July she had returned to full participation in running and cross-country.
A few weeks ago Addie set a personal record time during a meet and last week earned All Conference recognition at the Big Ten meet. Tomorrow Addie will participate in the Region 1 cross country meet. Good luck Addie! It is great to see you doing what you love again!
We would also like to wish good luck to current patient Maylie Bland and the entire North Marion CC team!
